FIELD SERVICE – WORK ORDER – GEM

When Microsoft gets it Right

Setting up field Service

Microsoft has really been paying attention to the grumblings of the community. In the last few wave releases we have seen many features implemented wrt making the setup of field service easier. This one flew under the radar for me.

Creating an Incident Type from a Work Order

In my experience, clients dislike taking the time to setup incident type. The clients just want the software installed, without the planning. This usually results in demoing the difference in time taken between setting a work order with and without incident types. In the end – we usually put in the bare minimum, with the knowledge as the client uses the system daily, they will familiarise themselves with the benefits.

A client today requested the ability to create an incident type from a complex work order. Not in that terminology, they used “Template’ as opposed to ‘Incident Type’. The request was a great feature, only if this was available, how hard would it be to build this using low code.

Brilliant Microsoft, a few minutes of research exposed this feature as OOB. Great feature and great documentation for ease of finding this feature.

Where is it

On the ‘Work Order Screen’ there is a button at the top – next to Book button (everybody knows this button). To know surprise it is called ‘Creating an Incident Type’.

Kudos to the ‘Field Service’ team.
